(24-07-24) BAIDOA (Halqabsi News) – President Abdiasis Laftagareen of the Southwest State today welcomed the UN Deputy Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs and a delegation to Baidoa. The high-level meeting focused on the urgent humanitarian crisis in the region, including much-needed relief efforts, concerns about displaced populations, and the UN’s role in strengthening the response.

President Laftagareen, accompanied by government ministers and local officials, emphasized the dire situation faced by internally displaced people and the need for increased collaboration with international partners to address critical needs. The discussions centred around improving access to essential services, providing shelter, and supporting sustainable solutions for those affected by conflict and drought.
The UN delegation reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the South West State to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and ensure timely and effective assistance reaches those most vulnerable. Both parties stressed the importance of a coordinated approach, involving government institutions, humanitarian organizations, and local communities, to achieve a lasting impact.
