(06 Aug 2024) KISMAYO (Halqabsi News) – Jubaland security forces, particularly the second battalion operating from Jannay Abdalla to Harbole, have removed several landmines planted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants on the key road connecting Jannay Abdalla and Kismayo. Commander of the Jubaland second battalion in the area, Mohamud Abdi Elmoge, confirmed that the forces have safely recovered the IEDs and have commenced operations to apprehend the culprits.
The removal came days after Al-Shabaab suffered a heavy blow in Bula Haji at the hands of these same forces.
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted on critical roads have been a persistent threat, often causing casualties among civilians. The group’s use of this tactic aims to disrupt the smooth movement of troops fighting against them.
