(06 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somali security forces have thwarted a planned bomb attack in Mogadishu, arresting four members of the al-Shabaab militant group. The suspects were apprehended during an operation carried out by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) today.
NISA officials confirmed that the suspects were found in possession of explosives, specifically landmines, which they intended to use against the Somali people. A brief statement from the federal government condemned the plot and vowed to bring the suspects to justice.
“The National Security Agency (NISA) has carried out an operation in Mogadishu and arrested four conspirators from the Khawarij (al-Shabaab), who were carrying landmines that they planned to harm the Somali people,” the statement read.
This incident follows a deadly attack by al-Shabaab on Lido beach in Mogadishu on Friday, which claimed the lives of numerous civilians. Authorities have since intensified security measures in the capital to prevent further attacks. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on al-Shabaab and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
