(07 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday chaired a meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP 29) conference, set to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November.
The meeting emphasised the need for Somalia to present clear programmes at COP 29 to address the impacts of climate change on the country. Discussions covered available opportunities and the challenges that require collective action.
Prime Minister Barre urged the relevant ministries to develop concrete and tangible plans, encouraging collaboration to ensure Somalia benefits from the opportunities presented at COP 29. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening Somalia’s relationships with other countries and international organisations to garner broad support for climate change efforts. The Prime Minister stressed that COP 29 is a valuable opportunity for Somalia to find solutions to the problems caused by global climate change impacts on the country.
