Somalia’s Interior Minister met with Ambassador Daccò Coppi of Italy, focusing on Italy’s ongoing support for Somalia’s Ministry of Interior and Security priorities in policing and overall security. The meeting underscored Italy’s continued role as a key ally, with both sides emphasising the importance of their strong partnership in advancing mutual security goals and promoting regional stability.
In a recent interview with federal government-run media, Ambassador Coppi detailed Italy’s significant contributions to Somalia’s security, which include military support through the European Training Mission for Somali Armed Forces, leadership in the EUCAP mission aimed at bolstering police and maritime security, and scholarships for Somali cadets to study at Italian academies. Italian forces have also been actively involved in training Somali police personnel in Djibouti.
Additionally, Italy recently donated four Bell 412EPX helicopters to Somalia to support counter-terrorism efforts and peacebuilding initiatives. In a further display of collaboration, 22 Somali students have been awarded scholarships to study in Italy, while the restoration of Casa d’Italia, a cultural heritage landmark, is underway to strengthen cultural ties between the two nations.
