In a statement, Dr. Gebeyehu conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed IGAD’s solidarity with the Somali people and government. “IGAD stands firmly with the people and government of the Federal Republic of Somalia against these despicable attacks,” he said and emphasised that such terror acts would not derail Somalia’s journey toward peace and stability.
The Executive Secretary also highlighted IGAD’s commitment to combating extremism and promoting regional stability. He praised Somalia’s resilience in the face of security challenges, urging continued efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous future for the country.
IGAD said it remains a key regional partner in Somalia’s fight against terrorism, providing crucial support to enhance security, strengthen institutions, and foster long-term development in the region.
