(02 Sep 2024) GALKAYO (Halqabsi News) – A high-level meeting to reinforce peace and stability in the Mudug region was held in Galkayo on Monday, with delegations from Puntland, Galmudug, and federal government observers in attendance. The discussions were prompted by recent security breaches that have disrupted the seven years of peace enjoyed by the city.
Traditional elders Abdikareem Sheikh Ahmed and Habib Hirsi Barre addressed the press at the meeting’s conclusion, outlining the resolutions made. Key among them was an agreement to resolve the recent incidents within three days and hold those responsible accountable. Additionally, the meeting emphasised the need to strengthen the joint security collaboration between Galmudug and Puntland to ensure continued safety in the region.
The participants also highlighted the positive developments stemming from the seven-year peace in Galkayo, noting the city’s significant growth in infrastructure, business, and population. They credited the stability to the firm maintenance of peace, which has enabled the region’s rapid expansion.
