(17 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali National Army with local “Mawisley” militias, has successfully liberated the village of Barag Ali Gadud in the Southern Mudug region. The operation, launched this morning, saw troops push Al-Shabaab militants out of the village and further into the rural areas under Jawle.
Military officials confirmed that the liberation of Barag Ali Gadud, situated approximately 50 km west of Harardhere district, forms part of a larger strategy to clear the Galmudug region of Al-Shabaab’s presence.
Significantly, this is not the first time Barag Ali Gadud has been contested. The village was previously liberated from Al-Shabaab in December last year, but the army later withdrew, allowing the militants to regain control. The current offensive underscores the Galmudug State and federal government’s determination to reclaim all territories before the upcoming elections at the end of the year.
