(03 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somali police have arrested 70 suspects in Mogadishu during a two-week crackdown on criminal activities. The arrests include individuals involved in banditry, theft, and government soldiers extorting money from motorists at checkpoints. Among those detained is a group accused of siphoning $10,000 from unsuspecting citizens, although details of the scheme remain undisclosed.
Police spokesperson confirmed that some suspects will be directly prosecuted as evidence against them has been finalised, while others will face further investigation. The police also highlighted a recent case where a bulldozer operator illegally cut down a tree, stressing that the operator, not the equipment owner, would be held accountable.
The police concluded by urging the public to strengthen their cooperation with law enforcement agencies to improve the security and safety of Mogadishu’s residents.
