(18 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali National Army, in coordination with local forces, apprehended a senior Al-Shabaab militant during an operation in Galhareeri district, Galgaduud, on Tuesday night. The militant, identified as Ali Geelle, was notorious in the area for his activities, including the extortion of locals and the forcible recruitment of children for the group. In addition to the arrest, the forces seized a Suzuki vehicle, an AK-47 rifle, and a cache of ammunition from his hideout.
His arrest adds to a growing list of defections and arrests against Al-Shabaab militants in military operations underway in various regions in the country.
