(16 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somalia has become a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), committing to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The government stated that this move aligns with the country’s efforts to utilise nuclear technology for sustainable development and to improve the quality of life for its citizens. Emphasis was placed on ensuring the highest standards of safety and security in Somalia’s nuclear engagement.
The government expressed its intent to collaborate with the international community through the IAEA to benefit from advancements in nuclear technology. These efforts aim to support key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and energy, contributing to the nation’s development.
In a related statement, the Office of the Prime Minister welcomed Somalia’s membership, highlighting the country’s dedication to peaceful nuclear engagement and its commitment to leveraging nuclear technology for sustainable development.
