(03 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Gen. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag on Tuesday launched the 888 hotline, an initiative aimed at preventing the financing of terrorism. The ceremony, which was attended by ministers, parliament members, and security officials, marked a significant step in the government’s efforts to eliminate financial support for terrorist groups.
The 888 hotline is designed to enhance cooperation between the public and security agencies, allowing citizens to report information related to terrorism financing anonymously. The initiative is supported by the U.S. Department of State and is a key part of Somalia’s broader strategy to disrupt financial networks linked to terrorist activities, including those of Al-Shabaab.
Minister Fartaag urged all Somali citizens to actively participate in this effort by promptly using the 888 hotline to report any suspicious financial activities. He highlighted the importance of this tool in strengthening national security and promoting stability in the country.
