(20 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – A military helicopter crashed this afternoon in the Arbiska area under Afgoye district in the Lower Shabelle region 30 kilometres south of Mogadishu. The incident occurred on Thursday evening in an area under government control.
The helicopter, which had taken off from Mogadishu and was en route to the Ballidogle military base, was carrying supplies for the Ugandan forces serving as part of the ATMIS mission.
Three Ugandan crew members on board survived the crash. They were rescued by Somali police officers who arrived at the scene and are reported to be in good health.
The cause of the crash, which happened shortly after takeoff, is currently under investigation. According to sources, the helicopter was flying at a low altitude when it experienced difficulties, leading to the crash.
This incident marks the second time a Ugandan helicopter has crashed in Somalia. In 2021, a Ugandan helicopter that was part of the previous AMISOM mission crashed, resulting in the deaths of three people.
