(31 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Federal Republic of Somalia’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved two memoranda of understanding with China and Qatar in a meeting held today under the leadership of Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre.
The agreement with China aims to advance the World Development Initiative, fostering economic growth and deepening cooperation between the two nations. Meanwhile, the Qatar agreement focuses on enhancing bilateral ties across various sectors, including trade, investment, and infrastructure.
In addition to these agreements, the Cabinet reviewed Somalia’s National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025-2029), an ambitious roadmap for advancing security, economic development, and social services.
The meeting also covered Somalia’s preparations for integration into the East African Community, a move expected to stimulate trade and regional collaboration, unlocking vital economic opportunities.
The Ministry of Agriculture presented a detailed report on agricultural productivity challenges, a critical issue for the country’s food security and economic stability. The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and addressing these pressing challenges.
