(19 Oct 2024) LUQ (Halqabsi News) – Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam closed a peace and reconciliation conference addressing the warring clans of Luuq District in Gedo Region. He highlighted the importance of peace and urged the residents of Luq to embrace coexistence and harmony. The conference aimed to bring an end to the recent clan conflicts in the town.
President Ahmed praised the local elders for adhering to the government’s call for peace and mediating between the two previously warring clans. The elders brokered an agreement between the parties involved through traditional reconciliation methods, with both sides regretting the harm caused during the conflict.
The President issued a firm warning against the mobilisation of clan militias and the arming of civilians, announcing strict measures to prevent further violence. He emphasised that the judicial system would play a key role in maintaining peace through enforcing justice, including retributive punishments (qisas). Additionally, he cautioned against extremist groups, urging the community not to turn to them for conflict resolution.
