(20 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Two Al-Shabaab militants were killed earlier today when an improvised explosive device (IED) they were attempting to bury exploded in the Majabto area of Lower Shabelle. The explosion occurred as they prepared to plant the device, killing them instantly.
A government statement confirmed that the militants had intended to target civilians using a crucial road in the region, but the IED detonated prematurely. The two men were reportedly riding a Fekon motorcycle when the blast happened.
Major Farah Hirsi Abdulle, commander of the Somali National Army’s 26th Battalion, 6th Battalion, 60th Division, stated that troops quickly arrived at the scene and identified the bodies of the militants.
This incident comes as government forces intensify their campaign to clear Al-Shabaab from key regions, including Hirshabelle, where ongoing operations aim to liberate towns from militant control.
