(09 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali Police Force has issued new directives targeting environmental protection and public safety for Mogadishu residents. A recent order from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has banned the import and sale of plastic bags nationwide, prompting police to enforce this restriction.
Police spokesperson Abdifitah Adan Hassan warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found trading or using single-use plastic bags, urging the public to prioritise health and environmental safety by switching to eco-friendly alternatives. This measure aims to curb pollution impacting both people and livestock in the region.
In addition to environmental concerns, the police also addressed security, issuing a stern warning to youth gangs known as Ciyaal Weero, who have resurfaced in parts of Mogadishu. Police vowed that anyone caught engaging in gang-related activities would face legal consequences, as recent security operations intensified across the city to enhance public safety.
