(31 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Abu Dhabi Ports Group to foster investment and development in Somalia’s fishing and port sectors. The agreement aims to boost fisheries infrastructure, establish fishing ports, create marine monitoring stations, and build a training centre for fishing skills in the country.
Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, the CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, expressed the group’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s economic development, focusing on expanding ports, maritime services, and the fishing industry. “We aim to explore opportunities to support Somalia by establishing investment and cooperation plans,” he said.
Somalia’s Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Ahmed Hassan Adan, highlighted the collaboration’s potential for sustainable growth and development. He emphasised that the partnership would benefit coastal communities, create job opportunities, and support the development of Somalia’s long-term port and fishing sector.
This move follows Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s recent expansion into other African markets, including Egypt, Angola, and Tanzania, where they have signed lease agreements in ports, maritime services, and logistics.
