(13 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) have completed an executive training programme led by the Institute for Security Governance (ISG) in partnership with the United States Army War College. The training, hosted by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Security Cooperation, was designed to enhance the military’s logistics, human resource management, and civil-military relations capabilities, playing a crucial role in strengthening Somalia’s national security framework.
A total of 36 participants, including senior military officers, took part in the comprehensive programme, which focused on sharing best practices and identifying strategic priorities aimed at boosting the operational effectiveness of Somali forces. Key objectives included improving resource management, building institutional capacity, and fostering stronger collaboration between civilian and military entities.
“This initiative, facilitated by the ISG and the U.S. Army War College, is a significant part of our ongoing efforts to enhance defence management and operational planning,” said MoD spokesperson 2Lt Abukar Mohamed Hassan. “Such collaboration is vital in developing a sustainable and resilient national security structure for Somalia.”
A young SNAF officer who attended the programme expressed their enthusiasm, saying, “This training has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to better serve my country and contribute to a safer future for Somalia.”
The training sessions covered a broad range of topics, including strategic communication, logistics lifecycle management, and the integration of human rights into military operations. This comprehensive approach underscores Somalia’s commitment to developing a modern and effective defence force that meets international standards.
The United States continues to be a key security and humanitarian partner for Somalia, providing vital support in the fight against Al-Shabaab. These efforts aim to strengthen Somali security forces and disrupt Al-Shabaab’s activities, fostering a safer and more stable future for Somalia.
