(03 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somalia and Slovenia deepened their diplomatic relationship on Sunday as Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre met with Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon.
The meeting, held in Mogadishu, focused on a range of issues including security, climate change, and economic development. Slovenia, a current member of the UN Security Council, expressed strong support for Somalia as it prepares to assume a non-permanent seat on the Council in January 2025.
Prime Minister Barre briefed his Slovenian counterpart on the ongoing efforts to combat the militant group Al-Shabaab and highlighted the government’s achievements in recent years. He emphasised the importance of international cooperation in addressing security challenges and promoting sustainable development.
Deputy Prime Minister Fajon commended Somalia’s progress, particularly in the areas of security sector reform and economic recovery. She expressed Slovenia’s willingness to support Somalia’s development efforts and explore opportunities for cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and technology.
Both leaders agreed to work together to strengthen bilateral relations and address global challenges through multilateral cooperation.
