Members of the Somali-Turkish Parliamentary Friendship Committee have met with the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Mr. Numan Kurtulmus, during an official visit to Turkey. The discussions focused on advancing collaboration between the two nations, especially on capacity-building for Somali parliamentary staff and ongoing construction projects, including Somalia’s Parliament building and embassy in Ankara.
The Turkish Speaker reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s democratic development, particularly in facilitating technical and experiential assistance for Somalia’s planned one-person, one-vote electoral system. He praised the visit as a milestone in strengthening ties between the two parliaments, pledging continued cooperation.
The Somali delegation also engaged with their Turkish counterparts to accelerate joint initiatives and foster closer cooperation between the friendship committees. A meeting with Mr. Mahmut ÖZER, Chair of the Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports Committee, underscored the importance of expanding educational infrastructure in Somalia. Turkey offered support to establish more schools and vocational institutions.
