Somalia Renames Ministry to Reflect Islamic Identity

Former Planning Minister Abdirahman Aynte said that the name change was overdue but based on a correct principle, as Islam is the only religion Somali people follow and take pride in. He explained that it was necessary to correct the ministry’s name, which originated during a time when secularism was prominent and Islamic identity was downplayed. He added that he hoped other government institutions needing renaming would also be reviewed to reflect modern Somali values.
