(26 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Upper House on Tuesday approved three significant bills during its routine meeting. Chaired by Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi and Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Ali Hirsi ‘Tima’Adde, the session focused on the Higher Education Bill, the Plant Breeding and Variety Protection Bill, and the Plant Conservation and Anti-Discrimination Bill.
The Higher Education Bill was passed unanimously by 28 senators following a detailed presentation by Senator Osman Mohamud Mohamed Dufle, Chairperson of the Social Affairs Committee. The bill is seen as a crucial step forward in reforming the country’s education sector.
The remaining two bills were fast-tracked to their third readings after robust deliberations. Following the discussions, 27 senators voted in favour, with one abstention, advancing the legislation designed to enhance agriculture and environmental sustainability.
Education Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir and Agriculture Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye, who attended the session, commended the House for its rigorous efforts in refining and passing laws key to Somalia’s progress.
