(08 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somalia’s military capabilities have been significantly boosted with the graduation of four elite Gorgor commando battalions from advanced training in Turkey.
The newly trained soldiers, who underwent rigorous training in Isparta, Turkey, are now poised to play a crucial role in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab and other security threats. The training, facilitated by the Turkish government, focused on a range of military skills, including counterterrorism, special operations, and intelligence gathering.
The graduation ceremony was attended by senior Somali military officials, who expressed gratitude to Turkey for its continued support. The Turkish government has been a key partner in Somalia’s security sector, providing training, equipment, and logistical support.
With the addition of these highly trained commandos, the Somali National Army is better equipped to confront the challenges posed by Al-Shabaab and other threats to the country’s stability. The deployment of these forces to frontline areas is expected to accelerate the ongoing military operations against the militant group.
