The National Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission held a meeting with religious scholars in Mogadishu on Tuesday to discuss their role in the upcoming electoral process.
The meeting, chaired by the commission’s chairperson, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, focused on consulting with the religious leaders and listening to their recommendations regarding the implementation of one-person, one-vote elections in the country.
The religious leaders expressed their support for the initiative and stressed the importance of restoring power to the people and enabling them to hold their elected officials accountable. They also commended the federal government for its efforts to facilitate a universal suffrage process in the country.
