The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, Deputy PM Salah Ahmed Jama, and security leaders, discussed preparations for Somali forces to take over areas vacated by ATMIS as part of the ongoing transition to AUSSOM operations.
The Ministry of Agriculture highlighted challenges facing farmers in Middle and Lower Shabelle, including illegal checkpoints and extortion, which hinder productivity and economic growth. The council identified these practices as a significant barrier to development and pledged immediate action.
President Mohamud called for urgent reforms to empower Somali forces and protect farmers, emphasising the link between security and economic progress.
