(02 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Senior commanders from the Somali National Army (SNA) have arrived in areas affected by clan clashes along the border between the Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions. The delegation, led by Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Omar, Commander of the 27th Division, included other high-ranking SNA officials and representatives from the two regions.
The SNA’s intervention facilitated a ceasefire between the feuding clan militias. Mediation efforts are reportedly progressing well, focusing on addressing the underlying causes of the recurring conflicts.
Officials from the administrations of Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle emphasised the critical need for peace and stability in the region, calling on traditional elders and peacemakers from both communities to dedicate greater effort toward fostering reconciliation and harmony among the clans.
The SNA has instructed both clans to defuse tensions and avoid further conflict to provide an opportunity for peace. Federal and regional administrations have consistently accused Al-Shabaab of instigating and exploiting clan conflicts in liberated areas to undermine the government’s efforts to restore order and ensure peaceful coexistence.
