(25 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The federal government has welcomed 109 Somali citizens at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, marking their return after years of living as refugees in Yemen. The repatriation was facilitated through collaboration between the federal government, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
Upon their arrival, the returnees shared accounts of the challenges they faced in Yemeni refugee camps, describing harrowing conditions and prolonged hardship. Many expressed gratitude to the Somali government for ensuring their safe return.
In recent weeks, the government, with support from international partners, including the European Union, has repatriated over 500 Somali citizens from various parts of the world. The drive underscores the government’s commitment to assisting its citizens and fostering stability in the country.
