Approximately 20,000 livestock were shipped from Bosaso Port to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Oman. The consignment, consisting of camels, cattle, and sheep/goats, was loaded onto four dhows and a ship.
Puntland’s Minister of Livestock, Omar Abdisamad Yusuf Dhuuh, attended the export ceremony and highlighted the ministry’s efforts to ensure the livestock met strict health and quality standards. He emphasised that these measures aim to bolster Puntland’s livestock trade with Arab markets.
The export comes as demand for livestock increases during the weeks leading up to Ramadan and remains high for three months, peaking after the Hajj pilgrimage. Livestock exported from Bosaso undergo rigorous health inspections in line with international protocols, a process that has earned the trust of Arab countries, according to Puntland officials.
