The Puntland Defence Forces have scored a major victory in their ongoing offensive against ISIS militants, securing over 250 kilometres of territory and dismantling 48 key bases in the rugged Al Miskat Mountains of Bari region. The operation, described as a significant breakthrough, is steadily driving the militants out of their entrenched positions.
“This operation has been a major success,” said Brigadier General Mohamud Ahmed, spokesperson for the Puntland Defence Forces. “Our troops have liberated a vast area, and we are now advancing on the Tuurmasaale area, where remnants of ISIS are still holding out.”
The latest operation on Wednesday saw units of the Puntland Defence Forces launch coordinated strikes from multiple fronts in the Al Miskat Mountains. The planned assault targeted militants who remain holed up in scattered locations, military officials confirmed.
The forces are reportedly tightening their grip on the area, with a focus on eliminating the last pockets of resistance. “Our mission is to restore security and stability to these areas,” General Ahmed emphasised, highlighting the determination to root out terrorism from Puntland.
