(16 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali government has deployed newly trained intelligence forces to the frontlines in Hiiraan, reinforcing the ongoing offensive against Al-Shabaab militants.
The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) troops, who recently completed counterterrorism training, have been dispatched from Mogadishu to strategic battle zones between Buuloburde and Jalalaqsi.
Military sources confirm that the NISA forces are heavily armed, including armored combat vehicles, and have established new positions near Buuloburde. Their primary mission is to block Al-Shabaab infiltration routes from riverine areas.
The forces underwent advanced training in Turkey, specializing in counterterrorism and high-intensity combat operations. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who met with the troops before deployment, emphasized their role in eliminating Al-Shabaab hideouts.
The deployment comes as the Somali government intensifies its anti-Al-Shabaab campaign following a slowdown in military operations in recent months. With fresh reinforcements and coordinated offensives, the government aims to reclaim key areas and dismantle militant networks.
