(23 Mar 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Former Hirshabelle President Ali Abdullahi Osoble has warned that Al-Shabab militants may have infiltrated Mogadishu.
He said he “strongly suspects” Al-Shabab fighters have entered the capital, and called for urgent city-wide investigations.
“The war against Al-Shabab must be approached from multiple angles,” he said.
His warning follows recent reports of Al-Shabab activity in areas surrounding Mogadishu, including Ceelasha Biyaha, Lafoole, and Xaawo Cabdi.
The militants were seen stopping civilian vehicles and turning off streetlights in those areas.
Somali security forces have since deployed to the areas, but residents have expressed concern.
In early March, the US Embassy in Mogadishu issued a security alert, warning of “credible information related to imminent attacks” targeting key locations, including Aden Adde International Airport.
The embassy said terrorist groups may target government buildings, convoys, hotels, and public spaces, with methods of attack including car bombs and suicide bombers.
The Somali government has not commented on Mr Osoble’s remarks, but recent military reinforcements and checkpoints around the capital suggest increased security concerns.
