(24 Mar 2025) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) – Puntland security forces have launched a fresh offensive against ISIS-Somalia in the rugged Cal-Miskaad mountains, dismantling newly established militant bases and seizing explosive-making equipment.
In a statement on Monday, the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) said troops conducted a targeted operation in the areas of Lugta Kalalay, Baraagaha Moqor Yare, Moqor Wayne, and Dharinta Barile, destroying command centres used by ISIS militants.
“Puntland Defence Forces today carried out coordinated operations in Cal-Miskaad, dismantling newly built ISIS hideouts and logistics centres,” the PMPF said.
Troops also confiscated and destroyed bomb-making components, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and materials used by the group to manufacture landmines.
The operation is part of a sustained campaign to eradicate the ISIS faction operating in Puntland’s mountainous regions. PMPF officials say the militant group has been attempting to re-establish a foothold in remote areas after suffering major losses in recent months.
The Cal-Miskaad range has become a key battleground in Puntland’s fight against extremism, with the PMPF conducting multiple offensives under its broader security initiative to restore stability and deny safe haven to transnational terrorist networks.
