(12 Mar 2025) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) – Garowe Mayor Geddi Ahmed Tuurre has apologised to the family of a young Yemeni boy who was assaulted in Garowe Market by a man dressed in Puntland security forces’ uniform while on duty at a business premises on Tuesday. The mayor met with Mohamed Addil Hussein and his father, Addil Hussein, offering his sincere apologies for the beating the boy endured. He confirmed that the suspect, Abdifatah Abdinur Farah, has been taken into custody and will face legal consequences in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the Puntland Police Command has verified that the suspect had no official ties to the Puntland security forces or any law enforcement agency. Authorities have labeled his actions a criminal offense, citing impersonation of security personnel and child rights violations.
“Our preliminary findings confirm that the suspect was not affiliated with the Puntland Police or any other security body. His actions constitute a criminal offense for posing as a security officer and violating the rights of a minor. He was employed as a private guard at Inji Market in Garowe,” the police statement read.
The Puntland Human Rights Office has welcomed the swift police response, applauding the arrest of the suspect. The office also pledged to stand by the victim’s family in their pursuit of justice.
