(20 Mar 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Residents of Mogadishu’s Dayniile district have captured a suspected al-Shabab operative who allegedly attempted a grenade attack.
Witnesses said the suspect was apprehended by local youth near Gaheyr University. The suspect was then handed over to police.
Videos circulating on social media show residents detaining the suspect.
Somali Police Spokesperson, Abdifatah Aden Hassan, praised the residents for their actions.
“The people of Mogadishu, especially in Dayniile, have sent a strong and clear message,” he said.
The incident has been widely praised on social media, with calls for other communities to follow suit.
The incident highlights the role of civilians in resisting al-Shabab. Security experts have long emphasised the importance of community cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts.
