(25 Mar 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Security forces say they have made progress in an operation targeting Al-Shabab hideouts in Middle Shabelle.
The operation, focused around the Masaajid Cali Gaduud district, was led by Somali police units.
Officials say troops dismantled Al-Shabab bases and retook areas including the village of Al-Furqaan.
“There was a brief clash at Al-Furqaan, but we overpowered the enemy and secured the area,” said Captain Abdullahi Deel, commander of the 3rd battalion of the Somali Police Daraawiish.
He said his forces are now in control of positions previously held by al-Shabab.
The offensive follows reports of Al-Shabab fighters moving into Middle Shabelle.
The Somali government has said it will continue operations in rural areas.
