(21 Mar 2025) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) – Two Puntland soldiers have been killed and four others wounded in a gun battle between rival units of Puntland’s security forces in Garowe on Saturday.
Security sources say the clash occurred at an eastern checkpoint in the city after police tried to stop Puntland Security Force (PSF) troops arriving from the Bari region. The dispute was reportedly over a government vehicle.
The PSF unit allegedly refused to hand over the vehicle, leading to a gunfight.
The wounded have been taken to hospital. The area is now calm, with Puntland police securing the scene.
Puntland authorities have not yet issued an official statement.
This is not the first time there has been tension between Puntland’s police and PSF.
The incident comes as Puntland forces are in the final phase of an offensive against Islamic State (IS) fighters in the Cal-Miskaad mountains.
Analysts have warned that internal disputes could undermine security efforts.
