(16 Apr 2025) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) – Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, currently in the port city of Bosaso, has announced his intention not to attend the National Consultative Council convened by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for Somalia’s federal member states.
During a luncheon meeting with members of the Puntland Parliament on Tuesday, President Deni made it clear that he would not participate in the gathering, citing the lack of a clear agenda. He described the proposed meeting as ambiguous and questioned its purpose.
Sources close to the matter suggest that President Deni believes Villa Somalia is not genuinely committed to an all-inclusive dialogue aimed at resolving the country’s key political disputes, particularly those concerning constitutional reform, elections, and the equitable allocation of projects secured under Somalia’s name.
Puntland’s rejection comes at a time when Villa Somalia had recently announced a consultative forum, framing it as a unified effort to combat terrorism, whereas expectations had been high for a political summit focused on ironing out the lingering disagreements.
