Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni is scheduled to convene the weekly Cabinet meeting in Bosaso this week, to rally support for the ongoing offensive against the Islamic State group. Sources close to the Puntland Presidency said some Cabinet members currently in Garowe have been advised to travel to Bosaso to attend Thursday’s meeting.
The agenda will focus on intensifying the war against ISIS and acknowledging the successes achieved by the security forces operating in the Bari mountains.
President Deni, who has recently been in Bosaso, has been engaged in meetings with local elders and community leaders from the Bari region, emphasising the importance of supporting the government’s fight against terrorism in the Al-Miskat and Almadow mountains. The Puntland security forces have recently registered successes in the fight against the IS group despite the operation still in its early stages.
