(08 Feb 2025) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) — Residents of Boosaaso, the commercial capital of Puntland state, are demonstrating heightened vigilance as security forces continue operations against ISIS militants in the region.

In a recent incident highlighting the increased community awareness, locals detained a man carrying a suspicious black plastic bag within the city. He was promptly handed over to security forces.

Puntland’s Counter-Terrorism Task Force confirmed the incident and praised the residents’ cooperation. However, investigations revealed that the bag contained only rubbish, and the man was released.

“This incident reflects the awareness of our people and their readiness to prevent terrorist threats,” the Task Force said in a statement. “[They] are alert.”

The incident follows a separate, more serious event where residents reported a foreign national attempting to plant an explosive device on a road in Boosaaso. Security forces responded quickly, shooting and killing the suspect before the attack could be carried out.

The active role of local communities is seen as a significant boost to Puntland’s ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, as authorities continue to confront the threat posed by ISIS in the mountainous areas of the region
