Puntland’s Defense Command has announced the capture of Sheebaab, a key outpost in Qandala district, Bari region, after ISIS militants fled before the advancing troops had entered the area. Security forces took control of Sheebaab, Kayaha, and surrounding areas, marking a significant territorial gain against the extremist group.
During the operation, Puntland forces seized stockpiles of weapons, fuel, and medical supplies left behind at a hospital previously run by ISIS. Additionally, they discovered two mass graves, believed to contain the remains of slain ISIS fighters.
The successful offensive is part of a broader counter-terrorism campaign aimed at dismantling ISIS militant strongholds in Puntland. Officials have vowed to continue operations to eliminate remaining threats in the region. The loss of Sheebaab further weakens ISIS’s foothold, forcing the group into retreat as Puntland’s security forces tighten their grip on remaining hideouts in the Al-Miskat Mountains.
