(10 Mar 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed extended Ramadan greetings to all Somalis, praying for mercy and forgiveness during the holy month. He commended the bravery of the Somali National Army and the Ma’awisley forces,’ for their unwavering sacrifices in defending the nation. Acknowledging the inevitable casualties of war, he honoured the fallen and wished a speedy recovery for the wounded. He reaffirmed that the fight against Al-Shabaab is a national duty, emphasising that terrorist groups continue to spill innocent blood, even in sacred times.

Sharif criticised the government’s handling of the prolonged conflict, warning that fatigue could weaken the armed forces without a clear military strategy. He stressed that while Somalia has had its strongest military force since the state collapsed, it lacks proper organisation and resources. He called for better troop deployment and logistical support, noting that clans alone cannot defeat terrorism—only a well-equipped, well-led government can.

Expressing frustration over the government’s dismissal of security advice from international partners, Sharif warned that ignoring allies could undermine Somalia’s stability. He urged authorities to take security warnings seriously and act swiftly against Al-Shabaab’s regrouping efforts. Finally, he called on all Somalis to support their forces and demanded immediate government action to reinforce struggling units before morale and territorial control deteriorate further.
