(18 June 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somali national forces have completed their first-ever joint field exercise alongside troops from the European Union Training Mission (EUTM-S) and the African Union mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The landmark training drill, codenamed “Green Shield I/25,” was held at the General Dhagabadan Training Centre in Mogadishu and concluded on Wednesday.
In a statement, EUTM-S confirmed it was the first time the three entities had jointly planned and executed a live field exercise, with Somali forces participating directly in all phases of the operation.
The exercise focused on improving command and control structures and enhancing tactical coordination between Somali and international partner forces in simulated combat scenarios. Officials described the drill as a major step towards operational cohesion and the ongoing professionalisation of the Somali military as it prepares to take on full responsibility for the country’s security.
