(14-03-23) Mogadishu – Residents of Mogadishu are calling for Somaliland leader, Muse Bihi Abdi, to be brought before an international court in relation to the recent conflicts in Lasanod. The call comes a day after a committee of experts met with the cultural leadership of Sool, Sanaag and Eyn regions in Garowe to investigate the situation in Lasanod. The United Nations is also involved in observing and searching for the truth about the conflict, which has resulted in numerous casualties and displacement.
During a recent People’s Forum program on Shabelle Radio, Mohamed Ali welcomed the fact-finding committee and called for Bihi to be brought to trial for his role in the conflict. Similarly, Muse Marodi expressed regret over the bloodshed and demanded Bihi face justice, while Mustaf Karaama emphasized the impact of the conflict on the struggle for Somaliland recognition.
The United Nations experts are focused on determining the real situation in Lasanod, and have pledged to prepare comprehensive information to be shared with the Security Council and the Secretary General. The recent conflict in Lasanod has reportedly resulted in the loss of 200 lives and over 1,000 injuries, with 200,000 families fleeing for their safety.
