(11-05-23) MOGADISHU – Somali federal cabinet passed a resolution encompassing eight key articles on Thursday. These articles address various aspects of financial management, including the general finances of the country, income management, purchasing and national contracts, management of general assets, and personnel administration and management.
Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre, who chaired the Cabinet meeting, emphasized the importance of this resolution in protecting public property and combating corruption. “The national property must be managed efficiently and serve the public interest,” said Barre.
The resolution comes at a crucial time for Somalia, which has been grappling with issues of financial mismanagement and corruption. The eight articles are expected to foster transparency and accountability in financial matters, ultimately improving the nation’s financial health and stability.
In addition to the resolution on financial transparency, the Cabinet also passed the Civil Service Retirement Bill and the Civil Service Retirement Policy. These new measures were proposed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and aim to protect the rights of retired government employees and those who suffer harm while performing their national duties.
The passage of both the resolution on financial transparency and the Civil Service Retirement Bill and Policy marks a significant step towards strengthening Somalia’s public sector governance and promoting the welfare of its citizens.
