(26-05-23) MOGADISHU – Anita Kiki Gbeho, the UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) and Officer in Charge of UNSOM held a high-profile meeting on Tuesday with senior Somali women parliamentarians, acknowledging their crucial role in the ongoing state-building process in Somalia. The meeting serves as a reminder of the increasing prominence of women in Somali politics, and the important contributions they make in forging the path to peace and stability in the nation.
Among the attendees were prominent figures such as Hon Suhur Haji Ulusow, Senator Zamzam Ibrahim, Hon Nadra Saleh Abdi, Hon Jawahir Mohamed Ahmed, and Hon Khadro Ahmed Mohamed, among others from both houses. These women, despite their different political backgrounds, have a shared commitment to Somalia’s development and progress.
During the meeting, all parties agreed to strengthen their collaboration on joint actions towards peace and stability, highlighting the need for unity in overcoming the challenges that Somalia currently faces.
