(30-05-23) MOGADISHU — On the occasion of International Children’s Day, on Monday The Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchao, in conjunction with Her Excellency Mama. Zahra Omar Hassan, the First Lady of Somalia, facilitated a heartwarming event that further solidified the deep bond of friendship and support between Somalia and China in Mogadishu. The gathering was part of the “Warm Children’s Hearts, A China-Africa Joint Action” initiative, co-organised by Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of the Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).
During the event, the Chinese Embassy in Somalia partnered with the Mama Zahra Foundation and Somalia’s Department of Disaster Management and National Resilience to donate much-needed food items to local orphanages in Mogadishu. Additionally, essential medical supplies were distributed, underlining the commitment of all involved to the health and well-being of Somalia’s children.
Ambassador Fei Shengchao commended the First Lady for her relentless dedication to the enhancement of social welfare in Somalia, particularly concerning the rights and interests of women and children. He also acknowledged her substantial contributions to the enduring friendship and cooperation between Somalia and China.
Both Ambassador Fei and Mama Zahra underlined the significant role that children play in the future of Somalia. In their statements, they affirmed their belief in Somali children as the vibrant force needed for the peace and reconstruction of the country. They also expressed confidence that, through dedication and perseverance, these children would indeed make their dreams a reality and ensure a bright future for Somalia.
The event showcased the strength of the bilateral ties between Somalia and China, as well as their shared commitment to child welfare, social advancement, and a promising future for Somalia.
