(09-07-23) KISMAYO – President Ahmed Mohamed Islam of Jubaland presided over a Cabinet meeting on Sunday, setting in motion strategies to free Jubaland regions from the grasp of the extremist group, Al-Shabaab.
President Islam applauded Sunday’s success of the Somali National Army (SNA), backed by international allies, which dealt a hefty blow to the extremist group. The cabinet focused on the strategic operation in Welmarow, 40 kilometres from Afmadow in the Lower Jubba region, where nearly 40 Alshabaab terrorists were killed and six were taken prisoners including three Kenyan nationals, marking a critical point in the ongoing battle against Alshabaab.
International assistance highlights the global commitment to eradicate extremism from the Horn of Africa. The international community’s solidarity with Jubaland demonstrates a united front against the spread of terrorism in the region.
