(10-07-23) MOGADISHU – A roadside bomb explosion, believed to be executed by extremist group al-Shabaab, tragically claimed the lives of eight individuals, including six children on Sunday, according to Osman Gedi Ilmi, the Deputy Commissioner of Security in Buulo Barde District. The victims, who constituted two families, were farmers travelling on a motor-rikshaw from Buulo Barde district to Jijibow area in the Hiran region.
Deputy Commissioner Ilmi expressed deep concern over the incident, criticising Al-Shabaab’s ruthless tactics that targeted vulnerable rural communities. “These innocent lives were extinguished in the prime of their youth, a stark reminder of the persistent security threat posed by al-Shabaab,” stated Ilmi.
The horrific incident has left the local community in shock and mourning, escalating calls for strengthened security measures across the district. Al-Shabaab, known for its violent acts against civilians in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region, remains a significant security threat.
Pressure is mounting on the Somali government and the international community to take definitive action against the threat of al-Shabaab, with the safety of rural communities, especially children, being a primary concern.
