(10-07-23) MOGADISHU – The Gorgor, an elite commando unit within the Somali National Army, on Monday successfully executed a premeditated operation, resulting in the obliteration of Al-Shabab-held positions in the Galacad District of the Galgaduud Region.
The military intervention, led by Captain Abdiwali Ahmed Hussein, commander of the 9th Gorgor, spanned several towns including Barag Sheikh Aamir, Eel-Dhitar, and Eel-Aid. The central objective of the operation, according to Captain Hussein, was to seek out and destroy the remnants of the Al-Shabaab extremist group and their hideouts.
“Our aim is unambiguous – to purge our homeland of this continuing threat and restore tranquillity for our citizenry,” Captain Hussein stated. “Our endeavours are made more potent by the collective resolve to eradicate these agents of instability.”
The local population demonstrated commendable cooperation with the army, providing crucial intelligence about the locations of Al-Shabaab hideouts. This public-army collaboration played a pivotal role in the success of the operation.
Captain Hussein expressed his appreciation for the local community, saying, “Our people’s resilience and bravery, their readiness to cooperate and share information, mirrors a collective commitment to a peaceful Somalia. We reciprocate this commitment by pledging our utmost efforts to safeguard their lives and enhance their living conditions.”
In addition to their combat duties, the army officers also assessed the living conditions of the inhabitants of these areas. Their goal was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by civilians living amidst conflict, thus ensuring a more all-encompassing support system.
